For more than 20 years, Ann Sandstrom has specialized in assisting Injured Parties and their Applicant Attorneys understand their client’s future medical care needs and carrier exposure by providing Strategic Future Medical Cost Projections and Life Care Plans that are specific to the workers’ compensation realm.
Ann is a Medicare Set-Aside Certified Consultant, a Certified Workers’ Compensation Professional, a Certified Medicare Secondary Payor Professional and a Life Care Planner. She is also a Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist and a Certified Medical Billing Professional.
Ann is a co-founder of Medical Settlement Specialists, LLC., a company specializing in providing future medical exposure evaluations that help the parties understand the “big picture” of future medical exposure in preparation for settlement negotiations.
Ms. Sandstrom is a member of Latino Comp, California Applicants’ Attorneys Association, Women in Workers’ Compensation, The Medicare Secondary Payer Network, the American Association of Life Care Planners, International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, and Professionals In Workers’ Compensation. She has presented at various chapter meetings regarding future medical valuation and Medicare Set-Asides. She also testifies as an expert witness in civil and federal litigation claims regarding the cost of future medical care.
In 2017, Ms. Sandstrom worked with the Arizona Applicant Attorney Bar regarding their new Full & Final claim resolution statute. Medical Settlement Specialists was part of Arizona’s first Full & Final workers’ compensation settlement, and in 2022, helped secure the largest workers’ compensation award in Arizona State history.
Ms. Sandstrom served as President of Professionals in Workers’ Compensation for 2 years, and as a board member for seven years. She is experienced in the use of various state Fee and Medical Treatment Utilization Schedules, Official Disability Guidelines, Medicare Guidelines, and the Medicare Secondary Payer Act.
Michael H. Kaplan, Esq.

Michael Kaplan is a co-founder of Medical Settlement Specialists, LLC (MSS). MSS was created to assist parties in understanding and valuing the future medical aspects of workers’ compensation claims and setting up successful negotiation strategies. Relying on decades of experience negotiating workers’ compensation cases as well as his experience as a mediator, Michael provides input to MSS clients, helping them think critically and strategically during the negotiation process.
In 2017, Michael was asked to be a consultant to the Arizona Applicant Bar Association regarding their new Full and Final workers’ compensation claim resolution statute. Medical Settlement Specialists was part of Arizona’s first Full & Final workers’ compensation settlement, and in 2022, helped secure the largest workers’ compensation award in Arizona State history.
Michael is the former President of the Colorado Workers’ Compensation Education Association (WCEA) and has been a WCEA member since 2002. Michael is an appointed counsel member of NFL Players’ Association. He also assists professional players’ unions such as NHLPA, MLSPA, MLBPA, PLPA, and the Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA).
Michael is well-versed in various state-mandated Medical Treatment Guidelines, the Official Disability Guidelines, and the Medicare Secondary Payer Act. Michael is also a partner at Kaplan Morrell, LLC. He has specialized in representing injured
workers since 1999. Michael received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctorate from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University. Michael is licensed to practice law in Colorado.
